    Description

Here is an old copper colored Hard Times token with a picture of General Lafayette on one side with a heavily worn legend "Lafayette, A Friend to America & Freedom" and below, "Died May 20 1834".   (The date is especially hard to read as the last numbers are severely worn.)  The opposite side of the token provides a detailed advertisement for S.L. Wilkins, a firm in Lowell, Mass. that dealt in "Boots, Shoes, & Shoe Stock , Hats, Furs" etc.
The token measures about 1 1/16th inches in diameter and shows dirt, tarnish and wear.  The wear makes some letters unreadable, but you can piece together the context and words.   Please see the pictures and ask any questions.
