Folding lorgnette with a celluloid rectangle inlaid into a sterling frame. Note what appears to be hand engraved accent in the sterling rims. The celluloid has a sterling bow accented with marcasites on it's front. Celluloid has a bit of faint scuffing & all marcasites are there. Closure is extremely firm. I have to use a fingernail to help it unfold. The sterling bow is spiked thru the celluloid and its rivet top has either been ground down to protect the lens or has been beefed up (close up photo 5). The glass lenses are without chips or cracks and do have a very tiny bit of magnification. The lorgnette measures 2 1/8 from the top of it's bale to it's end x 3/4 wide x a hair under 3/8 deep when closed. Extended the lorgnette is 5" long. It's marks are as seen in photo 5.
This lorgnette was made by the Frank Krementz Co. Frank was a brother to the famous George Krementz founder of the Krementz Co. which had a history of 147 years long (closed approx. 2013). Frank joined George in 1893 and left in approx. 1910 to start his own company. I found evidence of his death in 1940 but can not verify when the company closed.
We are seniors and as my husband has health problems I try to only do errands, like Ebay shipping, on Tues. and Fridays.
