Victorian Sterling Silver Tea Ball Infuser-c 1890s Pumpkin Shape

Although unlabeled with the silversmith’s marks, I firmly believe this example to be from the late 1800s. Shaped similar to a pumpkin but with narrower ribs, it exhibits a simple but elegant look.  These items were commonly used to infuse tea in the hot water during the Victorian era.  The only marks visible on the inside rim would be the word “sterling“ and the letter “A“. Perhaps this letter would indicate possible silversmith. The ball measures approximately 1 3/4” end to end and the chain runs 4 1/4” long including the ring. I can fine no damage or repairs to this wonderful item, however, I believe the closure ring on the latch is missing. The ball still stays closed without this tiny ring. I’m sure many times these rings were lost over the years from use. I have not polished this sterling silver piece.  Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description.
